Delandra “DJ” Ramey
Hello, I am Coach DJ! I am currently a PSA and USFSA compliant coach with Safesport training, an ISI Professional member and Bronze and Synchro judge, and I keep certifications in Adult and Child First Aid, CPR and AED. My specialty and passion is for power skating for hockey players as well as Skating Skills (Moves in the Field) and edgework for figure skaters! I teach group lessons and private lessons and I also work with the youth hockey program at Iceland.
I started skating right here at Iceland when I was 9 years old and immediately fell in love with the ice. Outside of my own training, I spent many hours in the rink as my sister was a member of the Jr. Admirals and my parents also volunteered their time as a coach and team manager. I gained lots of knowledge of both the hockey and skating worlds, attending games and practices and also competing and skating shows, volunteering for classes and camps and later was offered my first job at Iceland.
I attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI (Go Broncos!) and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science. I was a four-time member of the collegiate synchronized skating team and a one time member of the senior team, earning multiple medals at competitions, including a national medal in 2016. I also completed my moves in the field test, becoming a gold medalist. After moving home to complete an internship in Strength and Conditioning, I graduated and began coaching part time at Iceland. Fast forward to today, I have a full schedule of private lessons with hockey players and figure skaters, plus group lessons, and team sessions. I have a passion for both sports of figure skating and hockey and I love every one of the families I have connected with through these sports. I have the best job in the world!
Outside of skating, I love to spend time with my husband, Frank (who also plays hockey) and my daughter Lily. You can almost always find me with a cup of coffee near by and possibly Taylor Swift playing.
